If it weren’t for that moon

I could set you free

If it weren’t for the sun

You would be with me

If it weren’t for those stars

I could lose my way

If it weren’t for your heart

In the Milky Way

All the Songs

All the songs

All the rhymes

All the store-bought Valentines

All the fuss

All the fakes

All the excuses for a cake

All the pennies

All the wealth

All the toasts to someone’s health

All these words

Could ever be;

I know that you belong with me

Prelude

The piercing light of the highest C

The reverb of the lowest G

I wonder if my tastes were skewed

I wonder if they were preludes

The signatures in 3/4

The 7/8 that left me floored

I wonder if they set the mood

I wonder if they were preludes

The sweet symphonic reveries

The songs I played, that then played me

I wonder, in their plentitude

I wonder if they were preludes
