It seems these trees, chilled to the bone,
Leave us to fare winter alone
But deep within, where work is done,
Each branch is vital as the sun
For one is the whole, and whole of the hive,
When we retreat, we are most alive
It seems these trees, chilled to the bone,
Leave us to fare winter alone
But deep within, where work is done,
Each branch is vital as the sun
For one is the whole, and whole of the hive,
When we retreat, we are most alive
One must beware, ’tis contrary air,
The vane spins with uncertainty
In the foreword to Spring, these heavy winds sting,
With the Ides of Q.R.V.
The loneliness of winter
That lingered through the spring
The delirious delight
That summertime will bring
The amenity of autumn
The harmonious quartet
Of rain and wind and you and I
The evening that we met
I’ll write a song called Autumn Light
And my, won’t you think it a sight?
‘Tween bars of gold, each note will glow,
Waving towards the ground below
And by Nature’s sweet elegy,
We three will grieve in harmony
I see myself in every park
Each sun-soaked leaf, and strip of bark
Each lover lain beneath a tree
Each sacred simplicity
They say the best way out is through
And so I’ll take this dance with you
I’ll follow pace, I’ll move in time
You set rhythm, I’ll match with rhyme
One step forward, one step back
I’ll learn to balance where there’s slack
When you long to dip me low,
I’ll arch my back in even flow
And Life, when we’ve moved through my fears,
My dance card will be free and clear
In steady silence, the sunrise sings
Light dances on a sparrow’s wing
The golden bells of tulips ring
Heralding the dawn of spring
Winter snowflake, autumn leaves
Soft spring and summer breeze
The wind of every season
Carries with it Q.R.V.
We persuaded powdered angels
Clutched hot cocoa in our hands
And whetted winter’s whimsies
In Imaginationland
The longest day
That I’ve befriended
Began the moment
Our friendship ended
